Got a mails from USCIS that both my case and my spouse's case are approved and card will arrive shortly. However the online status still says 'Pending'.
Is this common and will the online status change in a couple of days?

Congrats on getting physical card caliguy--today even both of us got our CPO emails. :D.
Your posts along with alterego, kabmilegaGC and others ..were quite helpful. Ironically, in the entire time, since GC process began , it is only last 2 months that were most stressful but rest of the time, I didn't even care when dates will become current etc.etc..was just going with flow. I wouldn't want to repeat time from Aug 10th to Nov 2nd.--just waiting, waiting and waiting..and nothing happening.
If USCIS becomes more transparent and follows FIFO strictly.then that itself will give lot of relief to waiting applicants.

I was looking at the text of the legislations. If these legislations are not enacted before Sept 30, then we dont get the benefit till Oct 2009!. Of course that is hoping that these bills will pass. Does anyone know what is the speed we can expect for these legislations considered in the house?

Since you can study under H4 you cannot apply for F1 (My wife tried that already) :)
What if the spouse (H1B holder) has to leave the country for some reason, say for an year? Then how is the student supposed to maintain his/her status?
So, I don't think that is true. If you get admission as a full time student, then you should be eligible for F1. My husband did this successfully in 2001.

But as I have noticed, there is a lot of misinformation being spread around H1-B holders. One of those is that H1-B holders don't pay taxes. I have now read it at so many places, if I didn't know anything about H1-B visas, I would probably have believed it by now. So we really should make a point to mention that we pay taxes and social security.
Yes, on blogger's sites, I have read posts that make these false claims. Perhaps, we need to tell the press this, although I haven't seen an article in a respected newspaper that makes such a claim (I could be wrong, and there may be such reports). Also, I don't know of any lawmaker who has said that H1Bs don't pay taxes.
My point was that we cannot use that as a reason to get immigration benefits. We are supposed to pay taxes because that is the law. These taxes are needed to run the country that we are living in.
We should focus on how we impact the US economy in our letters. This is my view.
