I had my interview on 22nd Jan at chennai. Counsulate approved my visa and collected my passport . They did not return my passport for 8 days. On enquiry I found passport was under PIMS verification
On ninth day, I got the passport back along with 221g blue form, asking me to submit through dropbox original 797 AND 156-157 forms.
Anyone else has similar experience? How long woule it take after the submission to get my case processed.

Hi All,
All this memo states is that USCIS will not automatically expedite the FBI name check simply because a writ of mandamus is filed. This memo signaled a national shift in the way USCIS responds to these types of lawsuits.
The U.S. Attorney's Office will now fight the writ of mandamus lawsuit by filing Motions to Dismiss and Motions for Summary Judgment. While this obviously lengthens the time it takes for a case to proceed, it is still very possible to win and force the government to adjudicate the application.
Hope this clears up any confusion,

does kaiser provide insurance for visitors?
I am also shopping for my parent's insurance coming to US next month. I found the coverage by TATA AIG better than ICICI. The HMO plans for Kaiser is also good but expensive. United Health care does not provide insurance if the applicant doesn't have SSN.

They are good source of revenue for these news channels so most likely ur pettion will fall on deaf ears. First thing first: you must find out when the Name Check was initiated.
Again, if you just filed 485 a few weeks ago, you cannot call yourself "stuck"!
I don't think a Mandamus can be considered until the NC has been pending for a very minimum of a year.
Saying that, in case someday you would be in a situation where you would have no more choice but file a Mandamus complaint, yes you can do it by yourself.

I think we need to study the bill in detail before we jump to any conclusions.
From reading the summary in the AILA website, specifically the below :
The legislation would reinforce our commitment to families and reduce current wait times in the family immigration system by:
�Recapturing an estimated 400,000 family-sponsored and employment-based visas that went unused between 1992 and 2007.
Atleast to me it seems like the bill plans on using all the unused visas from the past years and apply that towards the family quota. Not sure if that would help the EB cause.

Does it matter whether the 485 is employment based or family based? I have a valid H1 (not stamped) and have just applied for adjustment of status (based on marriage to a USC) and AP. When I return from the planned travel, can I continue working for the company that I am currently employed with?
My H1 is valid until Q3 of '09.

You on paper are now an american. It gives you good easy travel without visas etc.
However people WILL treat you by your appearance/color/etc...
I request you to help your birthcountry by donating to schools etc like you donate to charities here(goodwill store etc).

Your points from 1 to 5 point the same thing. They drive down the salary of H1-B and other citizens. They have many undue advantage and its high time L1 be capped and restrictions be placed.

I dont have problems with genuine L1s who wants to settle down and apply GC. But 90% of L1s, just come for 1-2 years, take away jobs to India, drive down wages and never interested in settling down
The wireless company I work for, used to be a huge employer for H1s (primarily contractors). Now thanks to TCS and its army of $1 an hour L1s, slowly they are terminating contracts and giving it to L1s and shifting jobs to India

I read about your intense desire for GC and was thinking to myself... is GC something that someone has to be so very obsessed about? But after reading about your ordeal on this thread, I am starting to see why this is such a joyful time you in you life. Congrats!!! And I wish you all the best ... hope you will get to taste the better fruits of life now after having gone through so much crap.

We had similar problem in 2004 .Actual mess was created by VFS .Check your online status,I think you can use your passport number to track your passport. In our case passport was transfer to different vfs office .after three days they return our passport to Mumbai consulate ,this hole process took us more than week to get passport in our hand.Dont get panic...

As you may know, we are just one more week away from hosting Advocacy day in Washington DC where about 170 members of Immigration Voice will conduct nearly 250 meetings with offices of Senators and Congressmen. Such events cost money. If we have enough contributions, we can spend as per our budget of nearly $ 50,000. If not, we will have to cut back on the event spending and reduce the magnitude and size of the event.
If you are not coming to DC next week, please do your part and contribute funds to Immigration Voice. It not only finances the event properly, it instills pride and confidence in the members who will be there in DC that there are thousands of willing supporters behind them who could not be there physically but are 100% with them in their determination and resolve.
